Mountain Khakis: Ready for the weather ahead!
After the trip to Boston, I also had to head to western Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Let’s just say from last Monday of 85 in Charleston, Fall is finally starting to turn. The high in Roanoke was only 58. That’s a heck of a drop! I knew for both trips, I’d need a more durable and warm pant. That’s when I turned to my Mountain Khakis Teton Twill Pant! It’s an 8.5 oz cotton twill pant made for year-round wear.
Mountain Khakis is a clothing line out of Jackson Hole, WY “built for the mountain life.” It’s a great ranch meets golf looking pant. I think the way they describe is hard to beat too: “Casual comfort meets rugged mountain style… offered in colors and textures found in nature’s palette.” They also offer so many different styles in their line. Whether it’s a quick-dry synthetic, lighter-weight stretch pant, or and original canvas pant, they cover every area of an outdoor life.
A few details resonate in nearly all of their different pants. Their L-shaped pockets provide easy access and deeper reaching pockets. They also use a triple-stitching technique to give more of that rocky look. The most important feature that I liked about these pants is the mud flap double-panel heel cuff. Because these pants are meant to be worn, and worn, and worn – this extra panel protects the pant against quick fraying from different kinds of activities.
There are two colors I find really cool. The new Olive color is a great autumn green. Somewhat of a sage, it gives some great color to pair with other items in your closet like fleeces and sweaters. The other color I really like is their Natural. Its’ base color is a stone hue, however, there’s a small hint of green. The subtlety of the color really makes it an interesting color, and it’s probably the favorite one in my closet!
Mountain Khakis also has some great belts to match with their pants. The Teton Belt is a metal buckle with the mountain on it. A great, think, durable belt that can be worn with any khaki or even demin. Their other belt that I think is so interesting is their Glass Buckle Belt. It’s available in 4 different color ways that are each handmade with a double layer technique. It takes around 12 hours to make each belt in a kiln-fire that’s 1,400 degrees! How cool!
I decided to show how each of the belts looks with a pair of Mountain Khakis. First was the Teton Belt on the Natural color of the Teton Twills.
Second was the Glass Buckle on the Olive color of the Teton Twills. A really fun fall look. A navy or grey shirt/sweater on top is the perfect outdoor fall look.
Make sure now that it’s getting cold to try a pair of Mountain Khakis. They’ll last you seasons upon season, and they’re very reasonably priced! Wearing them always makes me want to book a flight out west to Jackson Hole.

TJ: I’m interested in picking up a pair of these for what appears to be a frigid winter in DC this year and hoping to make the Mountain Khaki my winter version of the stand ups. What’s the most classic style of Mountain Khaki’s and how do you determine size as I understand they both shrink and stretch.

Daryl,
The Original Mountain Pant or the Teton Twills are your best bets for the winter season. These do not shrink up, and they last you a lifetime. If you’re looking to stay extra warm, they also make a flannel lined Original Mountain Pant.
